After she welcomed her second son Isaac, Jamie Steeb assumed the hospital where she worked would give her the support she needed to breastfeed her son. She thought a workplace full of doctors would understand her medical condition that required her to pump while at work. She was wrong.
When her employer denied her the support she deserved under the law, Jamie knew she was being treated unfairly. She courageously decided to stand up and speak out against her employer’s refusal to give her the support she needed. Jamie chose Jason to champion her cause, and together they held her employer accountable.
“It can be an emotional process you go through, and Jason was very supportive. He is a champion for people and women’s rights.” – Jamie Steeb
Protections for nursing mothers, like the requirement to give Jamie a private room to pump, have to be enforced to create true equality in the workplace. Congress needs to strengthen these laws so that working moms like Jamie don’t have to sue their employers to get the support they deserve.
Jason knows the challenges working moms like Jamie face and will fight every day in Congress to ensure they don’t have to go through the experience Jamie faced.
