The Environment and Climate Caucus is the only environmental advocacy organization that has endorsed in the WA08 primary
Issaquah, WA – Former King County Deputy Prosecutor and leading 8th Congressional District Democratic Candidate Jason Rittereiser is piling up key endorsements in the critical days before ballots drop, earning the sole endorsement of the Environment and Climate Caucus of the Washington State Democratic Party. The ECC is the first and only environmental advocacy group that has endorsed a candidate in the WA-08 primary.
“The Environment and Climate Caucus is proud to endorse Jason Rittereiser in the 8th Congressional District race,” said ECC Chair Steve Verhey. “His commitment to rejoining the Paris Climate Accords, to fully funding the EPA, to protecting our public lands, and to keeping the Clean Power Plan intact, along with his understanding that the 8th Congressional District is poised to be a leader in renewable energy, are exactly the kind of things that our membership is looking for in our representative in Congress.”
The ECC is comprised of members of the Democratic Party from across Washington state, drawing its leadership from both sides of the Cascades.
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the Environment and Climate Caucus, because climate change is one of the greatest threats we face,” Jason said. “There’s no better place in the country to advocate for environmental issues than Washington’s 8th district, where we treasure our public lands and are leading the transition to a clean energy economy through our production of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power.”
Jason has been endorsed by three statewide labor unions, the Washington State Labor Council, the Washington State Council of Firefighters, and AFSCME Council 28 Washington Federation of State Employees. Eighteen union locals have also endorsed Rittereiser, including the Central Puget Sound Carpenters Local 30, Pile Drivers and Divers Local 196, Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 66, Washington Interior and Exterior Systems’ Local 41, Renton firefighters, Tacoma firefighters, Maple Valley firefighters, East Pierce Fire & Rescue, Upper Kittitas County Medic One, the Valley Professional firefighters, the Eastside firefighters, the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 598, International Union of Operating Engineers Locals 612 and 286, the Renton Police Guild, the Communication Workers of America’s Pacific Northwest Council, the ILWU Puget Sound Council, and the ILWU Foremen’s Local 98.
Jason has also earned the endorsements of the Kittitas County Democrats, the coalition of Indivisible groups in the 8th Congressional District, the 5th LD Democrats, and the Young Democrats of Washington.
Jason is running to replace retiring incumbent Republican Dave Reichert in one of the nation’s most closely watched Congressional contests, as Washington’s 8th district could decide which party controls the House. The only candidate with roots on both sides of the mountains, Jason is the first Democrat since the district’s expansion into central Washington that independent polling shows can compete with Republicans for every vote.
